Private Tours

The Canyon Lake Gorge is open to private groups for guided tours and may be requested by completing the Group Tour Request form (linked below). Each tour is lead by a volunteer certified Guide with assistance from trained Docents and GBRA Staff. We welcome group input and will work individually to help ensure educational concepts are tailored per prearrangement.

Regular group tours are $10/person for the 3-hour tour. A 10-minimum and 23-maximum participants are requested. If alternate participant numbers are projected, please contact the office or indicate in the specifics in the Special Needs/Request block on the Request a Private Tour Form (below).

Master Naturalist Chapter Training classes are free of charge. Any attending participants authorized by the chapter that are not students or directly involved in chapter training will be charged the regular $10/person fee. Classes with more than 23 participants may be split into two groups.

Corporate / Professional tours are normally priced at $500 for a 3- to 5-hour tour. Tours can be modified to fit individual group requests (i.e. Advanced Geology tours) and should be noted on the Request form. Fees may be adjusted for some requests.

Tours highlight the Power of Water theme with Goals that include increasing the participants' understanding of the:

  • Canyon Reservoir Project and Canyon Lake Gorge through the partnership efforts between the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Gorge Preservation Society.
  • Geology of Central Texas.
  • Hydrogeology, especially the interconnectedness of groundwater and surface water.
  • Process of biologic succession and an introduction to common plants and animals found in the natural communities of the Gorge.
  • Appreciation and respect for the natural environment!

Private Tour requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis around pre-scheduled public and group tours. Call the office to help determine available dates/times - 830-964-5424.

Public Tours are posted on this website quarterly (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec).

Please allow at least 3 weeks for processing from the date you submit you requested Tour date. Requests received prior to posing Public Tours will receive precedence; submit early for priority. Once the form is received and processed, an email confirmation with Liability Forms will be sent. Please have all forms ready for collection the day of the tours.

Indicate on the form if you group will be arriving by bus for additional shuttling options.

One week prior to the scheduled Tour date, the group's Point of Contact (POC) will receive a detailed email reminder with relevant information, guidelines, directions, and their Guide/Docents' names and phone contact. If you need this information more than seven days before your tour, please email or call the GBRA office.

It's important that the POC relay all procedures to all tour participants. Please provide a separate POC name/cell number on the Group Tour Request Form for an individual(s) actually going on the tour if different than the individual making the written request.
