Private Tours

Private Group Tours of the Canyon Lake Gorge are available for groups up to 20 participants. Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and are scheduled around our public tours and educational programs.

A Private Group Tour may be requested by calling the Canyon Lake Gorge Office at (830) 964-5424 or by emailing Lisa Walzem, GBRA Gorge Office Administrator at lwalzem@gbra.org.

Every tour is led by a tour staff consisting of a certified guide with assistance from trained docents and GBRA staff.  Tours are three-hour educational hikes and highlight the "Power of Water."  We welcome your group’s input and will work with you to ensure that the educational concepts are tailored to your group’s needs.

Our goals is to increase each visitor's understanding of the:

  • Canyon Reservoir Project and Canyon Lake Gorge: A unique partnership between the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Gorge Preservation Society.
  • Geology of Central Texas.
  • Hydrogeology: the interconnectedness of groundwater and surface water.
  • Interrelationship between humans and the physical environment.
  • Process of biological succession: the progression an ecosystem follows as it changes over time.
  • Plants and animals found in the natural communities of the Gorge.
  • Appreciation and respect for the natural environment.

TOUR FEE:  $20.00 per participant; with a $200.00 minimum payment.

GROUP SIZE:  1 -20 participants per tour.

MASTER NATURALIST CHAPTER TRAINING: MNCT classes are free of charge for chapter class participants.  Anyone accompanying the group that is not directly involved in the MNCT will be charged the regular $10.00 per person fee. Classes with more than 23 participants may be split into two groups.

GROUP POINT OF CONTACT (POC):  You will need to provide a Point of Contact's name and cell phone number.  This needs to be an individual that is actually going on the tour.  It's important that the POC relay all information to all tour participants.

HEALTH ADVISORY:  If you or any of your group’s participants have health concerns such as bad knees or ankles, heart condition or get easily winded, you may want to rethink this tour. It is physically demanding. In addition, it gets hot in the Gorge very quickly on sunny/warm days; please make sure you are well hydrated before the tour.

TOUR CHANGES, CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS:

  • Date Changes: Tour dates are locked in 10 days prior to the original booked tour and may not be changed.  No refunds or rescheduling will be given for no-shows or late arrivals.
  • Cancelation Due To Weather: Our office, and/or your volunteer guide will make a weather related cancellation decision no less than one hour prior to your tour’s scheduled start time.  Participants will be notified at that time using the cell phone number provided at tour registration.  We will work to reschedule your tour or issue a refund of your deposit, whichever will work best for your group.
